CORTONA
THE EXPERIENCE
The green gold of Tuscany.
In late autumn the whole of Tuscany is picking olives, and the frantoio – the olive mill – works day and night. We take you into a local mill near Cortona while the season is on, to see the olives washed, crushed and pressed, and the new oil run bright green from the press.
Then comes the tasting the locals wait for all year: olio nuovo on bread toasted over the fire, with a pinch of salt and a glass of red. You learn how to taste oil like a professional, and you can buy it straight from the mill.
