THE WINERY

Seven generations, one cellar.

Villa Tiberini is the guest house of Podere Tiberini, a winery that the same family has run for seven generations, on a hill near Torrita di Siena in the Valdichiana. Stone farmhouses with a little tower, umbrella pines and tall cypresses look out over vineyards, olive groves and wooded hills towards Montepulciano. Here, wine isn't a day trip: the cellar and tasting room are a few steps from your door, and the family is happy to walk you through the vineyards and pour what they make.

Stay in one of the apartments – from cosy one-bedroom apartments for two or three to a 90 m² two-bedroom apartment for five – with beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, wrought-iron beds and, in some, a fireplace. For families and friends there is Casale il Pecino, a four-bedroom villa for eight with four bathrooms, a covered terrace, a barbecue and its own private pool among the olive trees. Mornings begin with breakfast, cooked fresh by the chef; afternoons end by the pool under the pines.
